Love in Bellbottoms

UA students, circa 1977, dance precariously on Old Main fountain. Two happy hippies are silhouetted here against a grayscale sky. Love is in the air.

None of the residence halls were co-ed at the time, but naturally, "Residents of five dormitories have overwhelmingly approved extended visitation hours ... The new regulations, which extend the maximum hours a dorm resident may be visited by members of the opposite sex by three hours daily, passed with an 88 percent majority."

Other local happenings included a Coronado and East Stadium Residence Hall co-sponsored "Dating Game" show followed by dancing, a raffle and a chance to score a free copy of Janis Ian's spanking-new album, "Miracle Row," from the Gallagher Theater box office with the purchase of Billy Joel concert tickets. Singles in the habit of kidding themselves could try their luck with Ethel Snyder, the resident matchmaker "going on 70"-years-old, though that had "heebie-jeebies" written all over it.
