The UA men's and women's swimming and diving teams beat their ASU counterparts soundly Saturday in Tempe.
The No. 8 Arizona men defeated the No. 15 Sun Devils 169.50-128.50. The No. 7 Wildcat women won by a similar score of 170-130.
The UA women opened the meet by winning the first six events. Junior Emily Mason won three events - the 800 freestyle, 400 butterfly and 200 butterfly - and fellow junior Jessica Hayes took first in both the 200 free and 200 backstroke.
The Wildcat men won 11 events. Sophomore Lyndon Ferns won a trio of freestyle events in the 200-, 100- and 50-meter events. Senior Greg Owen took first in the 100- and 200-meter breaststroke events. Fellow senior Juan Veloz won both the 100 and 200 butterfly.
The Wildcats will take a two-week break to prepare for the Pacific 10 Conference Championships.
