A woman told police her son was kidnapped Monday, but police later found out she did not have a son.
The woman told police she was waiting in the Zone 1 lot at East First Street and North Vine Road for a friend to pick her up so she could retrieve her "son" from day care, reports stated.
Her ride was supposed to arrive between 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., and since it was 5 p.m. she was late, reports stated.
Police attempted to contact the cell phone number of the woman's friend, which was no longer in service. Police then attempted to contact the day care center, but there was no number listed for the name she had given, reports stated.
Police transported the woman to the church where she was to pick up her son, reports stated.
A church employee said they did not have a daycare and further investigation revealed the church had no knowledge or affiliation with the case, reports stated.
The woman told police she was homeless and staying with her friends. They were living out of two cars near the park at North Stone Avenue and East Speedway Boulevard, reports stated.
She told police she dropped her son off at the church between 8 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. and a woman driving a white beat-up van picked him up. She did not know the name of the woman or the day care, reports stated.
She said she went out to run errands by bus, and her friend never came to pick her up and she didn't know where her son was, reports stated.
Tucson Police Department took custody of the woman and continued the investigation, reports stated.
TPD later informed the University of Arizona Police Department the woman did not have a son and she was off her medication. There was no missing child and police transported the woman to Palo Verde Mental Hospital, reports stated.
A student's bike was stolen from the bike racks at the Modern Languages building, 1423 E. University Blvd., late Monday afternoon, reports stated.
The student told police he locked his bike to the bike racks just west of the building, reports stated.
He told the police he purchased the bike from Target about a month ago and did not have his bike registered with Parking and Transportation Services, reports stated.
Police told the student he should register his bike in the future, reports stated.
Police have no suspects or witnesses.
A student's backpack was stolen from a lab in the Civil Engineering building, 1209 E. Second St., Monday morning, reports stated.
The student told police he noticed his backpack, containing about $250 worth of belongings, was missing from the third floor lab he had been working in, reports stated.
He said he left his bag in the lab unattended when he stepped out at about 11 a.m., reports stated.
He said he saw an unknown man in the lab when he stepped out, reports stated.
At about 11:30 a.m. he noticed his backpack was missing and after searching the lab, he realized it was gone, reports stated.
Remembering his checkbook was in his bag, he checked his account online, which showed an item was posted for payment in the amount of $350, reports stated.
The student contacted the bank, and they froze his account and took note of the fraudulent incident, reports stated.
The bank told police the information on the check would not be available for 48 hours. Police said they would check back with the bank to follow-up, reports stated.
A UA employee found four .22 caliber rifle bullets in a Zone 1 lot, 1426 E. Sixth St., Monday, reports stated.
The employee told police while he was on rounds in the lot, he found the bullets on the ground between two cars, reports stated.
The employee and police searched the area for more ammunition but none was found, reports stated.
Police placed the ammunition into property, reports stated.
Two construction trailers and a concrete wall in a Zone 1 lot, 110 N. Cherry Ave., were spray painted sometime over the weekend, reports stated.
An employee told police the trailers and wall had all been vandalized. They were not vandalized when he left on Saturday at 3 p.m., but when he returned Sunday at 9:30 a.m. they were, reports stated.
He told police the damage on the wall and trailers were all similar. He provided the police with photographs of the vandalism, reports stated.
Police have no suspects or witnesses.
