Students craving Mexican cuisine can find more traditional options in less time at Café Sonora, a popular restaurant located in the Student Union Memorial Center.
The restaurant revamped their menu in an effort to improve customer satisfaction and speed up the serving process.
Victoria Christie, assistant director of Dining Services, said big menu changes include the addition of red chicken enchiladas and the increase in the price of the popular "Monster Burrito."
"The most significant change would be red chicken enchiladas, a classic style, which we previously hadn't offered," Christie said. "So we are excited about that because it's so traditional in any Mexican restaurant, and we didn't have that before."
Christi said the menu shift was not to make options healthier, but said she would like to offer a healthy daily special in the future, though there are plenty of healthy items available.
"There's still healthy items that you can get up there, and those are denoted on the menu by the little dots that correspond with our healthy lifestyles pamphlet," she said.
Christie said a few items, such as tamales, had to be removed due to their lack of popularity. By removing these items, Christie said the speed and quality of the service has improved.
"By having so many menu items, Café Sonora was slow because we would just have to take the time (to make the food)," said Christie. "So I slashed them off the menu. And now, people should be able to get through the Café Sonora line in three minutes or less."
Christie said the primary goal of Café Sonora's change was to improve the speed of the service.
"The main gist of what we are doing was to keep it affordable and make it fast," Christie said.
