The No. 6 Arizona women's swimming and diving team headed to Seattle yesterday for the Pacific 10 Conference Championships, along with the men's diving team.
The Wildcats prospered in preliminary competition, as senior Emily Mason placed first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:40.51.
The Arizona "A" relay team, composed of Jenna Gresdal, Lacey Nymeyer, Courtney Cashion and Jessica Hayes, took first in the 200y individual medley relay in 1:39.40. The same group finished first in the 200y freestyle event in 1:30.55 and second in the 800y freestyle relay.
The "A" relay team also won the 400y medley relay in 3:38.68 and claimed the crown in the 400y freestyle relay.
The "B" relay team, made up of Marshi Smith, Kathryn Elofson, Ryann Hackett and Meg Flanagan, finished fourth in the 200y freestyle event and second in the 400y freestyle relay.
Sophomore Whitney Myers took first place in the 200y individual medley with a time of 1:58.58, in addition to a first place finish in the 100y butterfly.
Mason captured first in the 200y butterfly, clocking a time of 1:55.40.
Gresdal won the 50y freestyle in 22.52, with Nymeyer right behind her in second place.
Sophomore Emily Strouse won the preliminary 400y individual medley, with Mason coming in second.
Nymeyer came in second place in the 200y freestyle, as well.
Junior Erin Sieper clocked a first-place time in preliminary competition in the 100y breaststroke in 1:01.16.
The Wildcats also fared well in the 100y backstroke, with Gresdal coming in first and fellow junior Smith finishing second.
Senior Jessica Hayes took second in the 200y backstroke.
Nymeyer took first in the 100y freestyle with Gresdal behind her taking second.
For the men's diving team, junior John Collier came in third place in both 1m and 3m competition.
In women's 1m diving, senior Daniela Bemme took fourth place.
The Pac-10 Championships continue through Saturday.
