No. 5 Michigan overpowered the No. 6 Arizona men's lacrosse team, as the Laxcats fell to the Wolverines 12-1 last night at Rincon Vista.

The Wolverines opened the match with two goals on their first two shots of the game, as Arizona (3-2) was unable to hold on to the ball.

Several Arizona passes were overthrown, resulting in more time for Michigan to release shots at junior goaltender Charles Salemi.

At halftime, the Wolverines had landed 10 shots on goal, resulting in a 5-0 lead.

Arizona got 15 of the game's 23 ground balls but was held to four shots on goal.

Michigan packed its defensive zone, not allowing Arizona attempts to penetrate. The Laxcats were restricted to shots from the outside, and four extra-man opportunities in the first half ended fruitless.

Michigan scored four goals in the second half before Arizona was able to net its only goal, scored by freshman midfielder Chase Foley.

Michigan freshman attacker Evan Fox finished the game with five goals, while attacker Peter Krauss contributed one goal and three assists.

Arizona plays host to UCLA Sunday at 1 p.m. at either Murphy Stadium or Rincon Vista, depending on field conditions.
