The No. 21 Arizona women's gymnastics team travels to Columbus, Ohio, to take on Ohio State tomorrow at 5:00 p.m.
"I'm really excited. The team is looking good. I've really been looking forward to this meet," said freshman Danielle Hicks. "My family is coming down. It's great to perform in front of people you know."
The Gymcats (193.625) fell to No. 4 UCLA (196.100) and No. 8 Georgia (196.500) in a three-team meet Sunday in Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles.
Arizona held its own early after the first rotation on vault and a strong performance on the uneven parallel bars, but came apart on the balance beam.
"We've gone back to the basics this week," said Gymcats head coach Bill Ryden. "But that performance has been a motivating factor this week in practice."
Senior Monica Bisordi finished fourth in the all-around competition with a total score of 39.225. She led the Gymcats individually in each event.
Hicks competed in the all-around competition for the first time in her collegiate career and finished fifth with a total score of 38.450.
"It was really exciting," she said. "The last few weeks I have performed the all-around in exhibition. It feels good to boost the team. It's a privilege."
Ryden said because of injuries and her excellent performance in last week's meet, Hicks will again compete in the all-around competition this weekend.
"She was going to get her shot anyway," Ryden said. "She has been doing well and has been getting better everyday in practice."
The Gymcats have performed well on the road this season, as two of their top three scores have come in away meets.
This greatly enhances the team's Regional Qualifying Score (RQS). The RQS consists of the team's top six scores, three of which must come from away meets. The top score is removed and the other five are averaged together.
The RQS is used to determine postseason seeding.
"We score higher on the road than at home," Ryden said. "It all depends on the judging panel. There are lots of variables. There are less distractions on the road, so it is easier to stay focused versus at home (where) there is family, photographers, etc."
Arizona hosts its final home meet of the season next week against Cal State-Fullerton, Texas Women's and Ball State.
The "senior meet" will take place in McKale Center at 7:30 p.m.
