An employee’s windshield was damaged while parked near the College of Medicine, 1325 N. Warren Ave., sometime Thursday, reports stated.
The employee told police when she parked her truck at 8:30 a.m. the windshield had no damage. When she returned at 5 p.m. she noticed a chip in it, reports stated.
While at the scene, police noticed her truck had many small pieces of asphalt on the hood, reports stated.
The employee believed the damage had come from asphalt resurfacing that was done near her truck, reports stated.
Police gave her the number to Risk Management for a follow-up.
A man was arrested for shoplifting and assaulting a security guard at the UofA Bookstore, 1209 E. University Blvd., late Thursday afternoon, reports stated.
The security guard told police he had attempted to detain the man and he was struck on the left side of his face under his eye when the man attempted to escape, reports stated.
Police were able to handcuff the man after a student tackled him to the ground, reports stated.
The man sustained abrasions to his right shoulder and hip and complained of pain in his right shoulder, reports stated.
Police called for medical personnel to come to check on the man and the student who scraped his right hand, reports stated.
A record check on the man showed he had warrants for his arrest out of the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, reports stated.
When police asked the man what happened he said he “took a book” from the bookstore and said he was “gonna sell it” because he needed the money for heroin, reportsstated.
The man said he had been using heroin for 12 years and was an “addict,” reports stated.
He told police that security stopped him outside the store. He then ran and was tackled by the student, reports stated.
He said his intention for going into the bookstore was to “get money to get a fix.” He said he last used at 8:30 that morning, reports stated.
The man’s warrants were not served because he was transported to University Medical Center to treat a possible broken collarbone, reports stated.
The security guard provided police with the security camera footage of the man shoplifting and two Polaroid pictures, one of the man and the other of the two books, reports stated.
A woman’s driver’s side window and door lock were damaged while parked in a Zone 1 lot, 421 N. Cherry Ave., Thursday, reports stated.
The woman told police she parked her car at 10:45 a.m. and when she returned at 2:57 p.m., her driver’s side window was completely shattered away from the frame and the door lock was popped out of its socket, reports stated.
She told police no items were stolen and there was no other damage to her car, reports stated.
Police found no investigative leads, suspects or witnesses.
An unknown person attempted to steal a $250 arc welder from the third floor of the Pharmacy building, 1735 E. Helen St., sometime Wednesday or Thursday, reports stated.
A man told police someone attempted to lower the welder to the ground floor from the third floor, reportsstated.
He said the person attempted to use electrical lead to lower the welder down, but it snapped causing the welder to impact the ground floor, damaging the welder, reports stated.
Police have no suspects or witnesses.
A student’s house, on the 1600 block of West Tucson Terrace, was damaged sometime between March 10 and Friday, reports stated.
An employee told police she was conducting an inspection of the property she manages for the UA and noticed the driveway gate was open, reports stated.
She said that was unusual because the student who is renting the house was in California, reports stated.
The employee told police she entered the gate and found broken glass from the front door, reports stated.
The employee used her master key and police conducted a protective sweep of the house without finding anyone, reports stated.
It did not appear to police that any property was disturbed. The employee said she would contact the student upon his return to ensure no items were stolen, reports stated.
The employee contacted facilities management to have the damage repaired, reports stated.
Police have no suspects or witnesses.
