Golf in third place after two rounds

After two days of competition in the National Invitational Tournament, the Arizona men's golf team is tied for third place at the Omni Tucson National Golf course.

The Wildcats shot their second straight seven-under-par 281 total yesterday for a 36-hole total of 562 (-14), which knots Arizona with Texas for third. Arizona jumped up three spots from its first-round finish of sixth place.

Texas Christian paces the 14-team field with a two-day score of 559 (-17). Arkansas ended the day in second place (560) and the Arizona junior varsity team finished fourth (563).

JV Arizona senior Nick Juszczak is one of four players tied for second place with a two-day total of 136, as he shot his second straight four-under-par 68 yesterday. Juszczak trails TCU's J.J. Killeen who shot a three-under-par 69 in the second round and is in first place with a total of 135 (-9).

Senior Nathan Lashley leads the varsity squad, shooting a 68 (-4) yesterday, good for sixth place and a six-under total of 138.

Freshman Travis Esway is tied for 24th place (142) and sophomore Josh Esler is knotted for 29th (243). Both are under-par heading into today's final round.

Sophomores Henry Liaw (146) and Nathan Tyler (148) sit tied for 45th and 58th, respectively.

Trey Denton helped the JV cause, as he is tied for ninth place with a four-under-par 140. Bryan Prouty (one-under 143) and Tyler Neal (two-over 146) are tied for 29th and 45th place, respectively.

Kipp Riehle, Ben Marsh and Brett Carter are competing individually. Riehle holds a score of 141 (-3) and is tied for 15th place. Marsh is tied for 34th (146) while Carter is tied for 58th (148).
