Students looking for an internship during summer vacation can check out their options today from noon to 1 p.m. at the annual summer internship workshop.

Held at Career Services in the Student Union Memorial Center, the workshop is free and will address information regarding summer internship programs, said Laura Teso, senior coordinator at the UA career services.

"The workshop is open to all students interested in obtaining a summer internship," Teso said.

Teso said the workshop will cover many aspects of internships and will focus on how to get started on internship applications, learning the skills that employers want in potential interns. Students will also hear about the types of internships available and educating potential interns about resumes and cover letters.

"There are many organizations (and) companies in a variety of industries that offer internships, some for credit, some for pay, some are volunteer, others for room and board, and some offer stipends," Teso said.

Organizations offering such opportunities include historic preservation and archives organizations like the Smithsonian Institute and Arizona State Library, along with corporations and companies like the Coca-Cola Company and Disney.

Other organizations that focus on political action and activism, such as the National Organization for Women and The Heritage Foundation, provide students with internship opportunities over the summer, Teso said.

Teso said it is best for students to get internship information early so they can apply right away.

"There may be internships that require students to submit their application materials early in the semester," Teso said. "Students interested in exploring internships in more detail are encouraged to call our office to meet with a counselor at 621-2588."

Another summer internship workshop will be offered at the same location April 12 from noon to 1 p.m.
