The No. 18 Arizona gymnastics team heads to Lincoln, Neb., this weekend to compete in the NCAA South Central Regional Gymnastics Tournament held in the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

Six teams will be taking part in the event, including host Nebraska, No. 8 Michigan, No. 19 Missouri, Illinois and Pacific 10 Conference rival ASU.

Freshman Danielle Hicks says this meet is the biggest meet of the year for the Gymcats.

"How we do determines if we move on to nationals," Hicks said. "I hope the whole team goes in with confidence."

The top two teams advance to the NCAA Championships in Auburn, Ala., April 21-23.

"We just have to think positive and hope it won't be the last (meet)," said senior Monica Bisordi. "In my mind the last meet will be at nationals, but the senior meet was when it really hit that it was almost over."

This is the 19th consecutive year the Gymcats have qualified for the NCAA Tournament, which is the second longest postseason streak on campus behind the men's basketball team's 21 straight berths.

Even with the magnitude of the meet, Hicks said the team did not prepare any different in practice this week.

"We're in a good mood, pushing each other - 24-for-24, that's the best we can do," she said.

Arizona begins the meet on the floor exercise, one of the team's best events, followed by the vault and a rest period.

The next event is the uneven parallel bars and the balance beam, followed by another break.

While the team hopes to take a fast start to a berth at nationals, Bisordi said the team isn't worried about anything more than the competition at hand.

"We talked as a team that this could be the last meet of the year," Bisordi said. "Above all else we need to do what we are capable of. I told the girls, 'We just need to have fun.'"
