The Arizona women's golf team finished the first day of the Pacific 10 Conference Championships in sixth place, 10 shots behind defending conference champion UCLA.

The Wildcats shot a 12-over-par 300 at the Ruby Hills Golf Club in Pleasanton, Calif.

Junior Cassandra Kirkland was the top Arizona finisher, holding sixth place with an even-par 72.

Senior Mar Garcia also placed in the top-10 carding a 1-over-par 73 and is tied for seventh.

"We have 36 holes to make up 11 shot," said head coach Greg Allen in a press release. "We came here to win a Pac-10 Championship. We feel the girls are good enough to bounce back. Mar and Cassandra had good scores today and we know the other three are capable of getting good scores too."

Arizona trails tournament leader UCLA (290), USC (291), ASU (296), Washington (298) and Washington State (299).

Senior Miriam Kraschinski shot a 77, and juniors Lani Elston and Whitney Welch shot a 78 and 81 respectively.
