Police found several entry doors open and unlocked at the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity house, 1509 E. Second St., Sunday morning, reports stated.
Police were patrolling in the alley behind the house at 3:51 a.m. and noticed a door to the courtyard was open, reports stated.
The house appeared to be vacant and upon searching the house, police found it to be unoccupied and the power disabled, reports stated.
The open door led to a courtyard and access to rooms in the house. Several other doors in the house leading to bedrooms were also unlocked, reports stated.
Upon further inspection of the room doors police noticed locks were broken and door frames were shattered, as though someone had kicked the doors in and broken the locks intentionally, reports stated.
Police were unable to determine if the damage had been done by fraternity members or by outside individuals, reports stated.
The unsecured rooms contained personal and valuable items including TVs, DVD players, clothes and furniture. Police could not determine if anything was missing or damaged.
Police secured the exterior door that led to the courtyard, reports stated.
Upon further inspection of the exterior of the house, police found an alleyway extending the length of the house. The gate to the alley was unsecured and police saw that the entire alley was piled about two feet high with old food, empty liquor bottles, clothes, shoes and papers, reports stated.
The unsecured alley also granted access to a window on the first floor that was open and led into a person’s room. The room granted access to the rest of the house, reports stated.
The alley gate and window could not be secured by police.
The coordinator for Greek Life was contacted. He contacted the fraternity president, who said he would report to the house and secure it.
A student’s bike was stolen Saturday morning from the Student Recreation Center, 1400 E. Sixth St., reports stated.
The student said she locked her bike at 10 a.m. and when she returned at noon her bike was missing, reports stated.
Police searched area for evidence but results were negative, reports stated.
The student told police she did not know the bike’s serial number and it was not registered with Parking and Transportation Services.
Police have no suspects or witnesses.
Police found a student’s bike lying on the sidewalk in front of the Psychology Building, 1503 E. University Blvd., at 2:19 p.m. Saturday, reports stated.
No one was around to claim the bike so police took it back to UAPD headquarters and placed it into property for safe keeping, reports stated.
The bike was registered with Parking and Transportation Services. Police contacted the owner and left him a message on how and when to retrieve his bike, reports stated.
Someone stole 100 feet of copper wire from the Meinel construction site, 1630 E. University Blvd., sometime between June 24 and July 5 at 7 a.m., reports stated.
A worker at the site flagged down an officer and told him someone had stolen the $100 worth of wiring from the eighth floor of the building, which is under construction, reports stated.
All workers have access to the building, so the worker who reported the incident said he had no idea who could have taken it, reports stated.
Because it is under construction, the building cannot be secured properly, reports stated.
Police have no suspects or witnesses.
An officer’s helmet badge was stolen around lunchtime on Friday from the Flamingo Hotel, 2334 N. First Ave., reports stated.
The officer said his badge was in place on the front of his patrol helmet when he started his shift at 7 a.m., reports stated.
He said the only time the helmet was out of his view was between 11:30 and 12:30 when he was at lunch, reports stated.
The badge was gold with blue letters that read “University Police” and “The Great Seal of the State of Arizona 1912” in the middle with wings on both sides, reports stated.
No evidence was found on the helmet and police have so suspect or witness information.
