A man was arrested for trespassing, shoplifting and disrupting an educational facility after he was cited for drinking in public and was found sleeping in the Park Avenue Garage, 1140 N. Park Ave., early Thursday morning, reports stated.

At 7:44 a.m. police responded to a report by Parking and Transportation Services about a man sleeping on the first floor of the garage, reports stated.

When an officer arrived, he noticed the man was the same person he had cited and released 30 minutes earlier for drinking in public, just outside the garage, reports stated.

After the officer cited the man the first time he told him to leave the area and the man agreed to go, reports stated.

The man was sitting up against a concrete wall when the officer responded and was drinking a beer, reports stated.

The man was also yelling out loud but not at anyone or thing that the officer noticed, reports stated.

The man said he returned to the area after the cop told him to leave because he was "an alcoholic," reports stated.

Police arrested the man and searched him but found nothing in his pockets, reports stated.

The officer asked the man where he bought the 40 oz bottle of Steel Reserve he was drinking and he said nothing, then after being asked again he looked towards the 7 Eleven at East Speedway Boulevard and North Park Avenue, reports stated.

Police asked the man how he bought it because they found no money on him, and the man said, "I didn't buy it," reports stated.

The officer asked the man if he stole the beer and he said, "Yeah, I'm an alcoholic," reports stated.

The officer took the man to 7-Eleven where the clerk confirmed the man's story and identified him. The clerk told police he tried to yell after the man to return and pay for the beer, but the man ignored him and left the building, reports stated.

The man was booked into Pima County Jail for trespassing at the Park Ave Garage, shoplifting the beer valued at $2.19 cents, and disrupting an educational facility, reports stated.

An officer noticed a suspicious person riding a red mountain bike near North Cherry Avenue and East University Boulevard at 9:09 a.m. Thursday and remembered seeing him near the Main Library earlier, reports stated.

Police tried to make contact with the man at North Campbell Avenue and pulled up next to him, asking him to stop riding, reports stated.

The man said, "Fuck you," and continued riding northbound on the sidewalk along North Campbell Avenue, reports stated.

Police contacted the University of Arizona Police Department dispatch and gave them a description of the man, reports stated.

Another officer stopped the man at East First Street and said the man had jumped off his bike and slapped it to the ground, reports stated.

The officer removed his Taser from its holster after the man became belligerent and aggressive, but did not deploy. Dispatch informed the officer that the man had numerous contacts with police but no warrants or arrests, reports stated.

The bike the man was riding was not reported stolen and the man was advised to leave the campus area after he was released, reports stated.

A $500 ophthalmoscope was stolen from the Nursing College, 1305 N. Mountain Ave., sometime in the last two months, reports stated.

An employee of the college reported it was missing from a locked storage room that the employee said she had last inventoried in May, reports stated.

The employee said the room is usually locked and it showed no signs of forced entry, reports stated.

The employee said she sent an email to the department notifying of the incident, reports stated.
