From her rear window Giovanna (the mesmerizing Giovanna Mezzogiorno) - discontent in her work and marriage - spies on the handsome man in the flat opposite and dreams of romance. Into a life torn between private need and familial responsibility drifts an elderly Holocaust survivor (played by Massimo Girotti in a haunting final performance) whose own guilt draws him back to the horrors of the Nazi occupation of Rome and to an unrequited passion that never flowered. $3. 7:30 p.m. Manuel T.
