Club rugby thumps Texas, Baylor during opening weekend
The Arizona men's club rugby team ran roughshod in its opening weekend of the 2005-06 season, defeating Texas and Baylor by a combined score of 81-31.
Arizona (2-0) scored six tries against the Bears yesterday, winning 44-12.
Baylor responded to a 25-0 halftime deficit with a try early in the second half, but the Wildcats hit back with tries by Doug Hood Jr., Chris Dublinski and Mike Papp.
Papp broke three tackles five minutes into the match for his first of two tries.
Flyhalf Mark Gallo ended with 14 points on four conversions and two penalty kicks.
Fullback Joey Ordonez scored three tries in Arizona's 37-19 victory Friday over the Longhorns.
Texas' Pete Van Scoy downed two Arizona tacklers to make the score 27-19 with 10 minutes remaining. Wildcat wing Dan Hafner and Ordonez each scored tries to clinch the victory.
Arizona meets ASU in a non-SoCal Conference game Nov. 13 in Tempe, then returns home to host New Mexico on Nov. 19 at Estevan Park.
