A student was arrested for underage drinking after police found him passed out behind a planter on the south side of the Central Power and Heating Plant, 640 N. Mountain Ave., just after 4 a.m. Sunday, reports stated.

Police found the student passed out face down and immediately noticed a strong odor of alcohol coming from him as he moved into a sitting position, reports stated.

The odor intensified as the student spoke to the officer, and the student’s eyes were bloodshot and watery, reports stated.

The student had difficulty keeping his balance, even though he was sitting down, reports stated.

The student showed police his identification, which showed him to be under 21. When police asked him if he had been drinking, he said he had, reports stated.

Police asked the student where he was going, and he said he was trying to get back to his room in La Paz Residence Hall, 602 N. Highland Ave., reports stated.

Police escorted the student back to the dorm and made sure he made it to his room safely, reports stated.

The student was cited and released.


Two parking meters were missing from a parking lot at 1310 E. First St., sometime between noon Friday and noon Monday, reports stated.

The two parking meters, worth $350 apiece, contained about $54 between them and were attached to the same pole, which someone removed from the ground, reports stated.

The meters were last emptied on Oct. 26 at 12:15 p.m., reports stated.

Police have no suspects or witnesses.


A student was diverted to the Dean of Students for having a pellet gun in his room in Gila Residence Hall, 1009 E. James E. Rogers Way, just after midnight on Monday, reports stated.

A resident in the dorm told police the student had a pellet gun and ammunition in his room, reports stated.

Residents in the hall said they had seen the student shoot the gun out of a hole in the screen on his window, reports stated.

Police knocked on the student’s door and said they needed the pellet gun reports stated.

The student, without hesitation, retrieved the pistol from a drawer in his dresser and gave it to police along with a bottle full of yellow pellet-style ammunition and a plastic baggie with five silver pellets, reports stated.

Police checked the gun to make sure it was not loaded and emptied the clip into the bottle with the other yellow pellets, reports stated.

The student told police he had been shooting the gun at paper targets in his room, but not at people, reports stated.

Residence Life staff inspected the room for damage and police found small marks above the door. The student said the marks were from shooting at the wall, reports stated.

Residence Life staff did not wish to press charges for criminal damage and they told police they would repair the damage to the room, reports stated.


Someone broke a window on the third floor of the Aerospace Mechanical Engineering building, 1130 N. Mountain Ave., sometime over the weekend, reports stated.

An employee said the window was broken sometime between Friday and 6:30 a.m. Monday, reports stated.

It was unclear to police what object was used to cause the damage, and the employee said he would have Facilities Management repair the damage, reports stated.

No evidence was found at the scene, and police have no suspect or witness information, reports stated.


Someone stole 60 hot dog buns, a 6-quart metal cooking pot and 20 bottles of water from the hot dog cart on the UA Mall, 1212 E. University Blvd., sometime over the weekend, reports stated.

An employee said someone damaged the cart and stole the items sometime between 5 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m. Monday, reports stated.

The stand is covered with a tarp and is not difficult to access, reports stated.

Police have no suspects or witnesses.
