2 Democrats win City Council seats in landslide victories
Two Democratic City Council candidates ousted Republican incumbents last night in Tucson's general election. Of Tucson's 248,777 registered voters, 21.64 percent of votes, or 53,839, were tallied by press time.
Karin Uhlich, the Democratic candidate for Ward 3, defeated incumbent Republican Kathleen Dunbar after gaining 61.25 percent of the vote.
Steve Leal, the unopposed Democratic candidate for Ward 5, won after receiving 97.53 percent of the vote.
Nina Trasoff, the Democratic candidate for Ward 6 who ran against Republican Fred Ronstadt, won after receiving 65.06 percent of the vote.
Proposition 100, which would have raised the salaries of the mayor and City Council members, was turned down by 50.82 percent.
Proposition 400, which would provide the city a four-year "home-rule" option that eliminates state-imposed budgetary restrictions, was approved with 62.77 percent of the vote.

The Dean of Students Office is hosting a panel discussion today to address how students leave residence halls and move into neighborhoods surrounding campus without always being equipped with the tools to be "good neighbors."
The discussion is meant to explore the differences between these two groups and to address how the university prepares students for this next step in their development as productive citizens.
The panel will be held at noon in Gallagher Theater in the Student Union Memorial Center.
