Safety fair today

The second annual public safety fair is being held today on the UA Mall from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Attendees will be provided information about domestic violence, acquaintance rape, self-defense and personal safety both in and outside of the UA community.

Free refreshments and glow-in-the-dark safety key chains will also be handed out. The fair is sponsored by SafeRide.

Cultural show tomorrow

The UA India Club is hosting a cultural show tomorrow in the Social Sciences building, Room 100 at 5:30 p.m.

The event is called Diwali, the Festival of Lights, and will feature India Club members as well as members of Tucson's Indian community performing traditional music, dance, skits and other performances.

Admission to the event is free. The club will also host a dinner after the show in the Cactus Grill in the Student Union Memorial Center. Tickets for the dinner are $8 and can be obtained through India Club members at k_shakalya@yahoo.com or sapnap@email.arizona.edu.

Book drive and banquet tomorrow night

The African Students Association is hosting its annual fall banquet tomorrow night. The goal of the banquet is to collect a variety of books to be shipped to 24 different countries in Africa at the end of the academic year. The books will be sent to rural school districts lacking a sufficient supply of texts.

Other banquet activities include speeches, a skit, two dance performances and authentic African cuisine.

Tickets can be purchased at the door and are $7 for students, $10 for adults. There is a $2 discount if you bring a book. The banquet starts at 6:30 p.m. in the Ina E. Gittings building.
