UA researcher to travel to Antartica on meteorite hunt
UA lunar and planetary laboratory research specialist Jani Radebaugh will travel to Antarctica as part of the Antarctic Search for Meteorites program.
Radebaugh and 14 others plan to collect pieces of meteorites, which include pieces from the moon and Mars. Radebaugh will be stationed for five weeks during the Antarctic summer, which has temperatures of minus 30 degrees Fahrenheit.
The program's Web site says Antarctica is a hot spot for finding meteorites because they are easy to spot in the plain ice background.
UA South Campus contributes to Thanksgiving turkey drive
The employees of the UA South Campus have donated money among themselves to lend a hand to shelters in need of support this Thanksgiving Day.
Employees will meet at 9 a.m. today at the Safeway Supermarket in Sierra Vista and purchase at least 60 frozen, uncooked turkeys.
The turkeys will immediately be delivered to churches and shelters in the area, providing meals on the Thanksgiving Day for the needy.
Leadership workshop offers oppression-battling skills
"Leading to Undo Oppression: Reflection and Action" is part of the 2005 Fall Leadership Workshop Series from the Center of Student Involvement and Leadership.
Students earn a certificate of leadership enrichment if they complete seven or more workshops during the academic year or become a certified UA student leader by attending 20 over three semesters.
The free workshop is scheduled for 5 p.m. in the Ventana Room of the Student Union Memorial Center.
