A student was arrested for possession of marijuana paraphernalia and underage drinking after a resident assistant smelled burnt marijuana coming from the student's room on the fourth floor of Coronado Residence Hall, 822 E. Fifth St., at 1 a.m. Nov. 22, reports stated.

Police knocked on the student's door and asked if they could enter to discuss some issues and the student agreed, reports stated.

The officers immediately smelled burnt marijuana in the room and noticed the student's eyes were red, watery and bloodshot, reports stated.

Police explained the reason they were there and asked if the student had been smoking marijuana in the room, and the student denied it but said he did smoke occasionally but had not smoked any marijuana that evening, reports stated.

The officer asked the student to stick out his tongue, and the officer noticed the rear of his tongue had a green tinge to it, a sign of smoking marijuana, reports stated.

Police asked the student if he had any marijuana paraphernalia in the room, and the student said he did not and allowed police to search his area of the room, reports stated.

Police found a lock box in the student's closet that contained a glass pipe with marijuana residue on it, reports stated.

The student told police the pipe was "paraphernalia" and when asked, the student said the pipe was used to smoke marijuana, reports stated.

Police also found a 750-mililiter bottle of rum in the freezer portion of the student's refrigerator, and the student said it belonged to him. The rum was poured down the bathroom sink and the bottle was disposed of, reports stated.

The pipe was placed into evidence, and police also found a black extendable police baton on the student's desk. Weapons of any kind are not permitted in the residence halls, according to Residence Life policies, and police confiscated the baton and placed it in property for safekeeping until the student can retrieve it at the end of the year, reports stated.

The student was cited and released, reports stated.

An employee reported seeing three men in a white car vandalize the statue on the north side of McKale Center, 1721 E. Enke Road, with Arizona State University paraphernalia at 3:37 a.m. Nov. 22, reports stated.

The employee said he and a coworker saw three men near McKale Center, and the car parked in the eastbound lane on the UA Mall, reports stated.

As the employees walked toward the men, they got in the car and drove eastbound to North Campbell Avenue and proceeded northbound, reports stated.

Police searched for the vehicle but were unable to find the car, reports stated.

The men had used yellow, water-based paint to write "ASU" on the sand at the bottom of the statue. Yellow and maroon shirts with ASU logos were placed over the heads of the wildcats on the statue, and one shirt was draped over the back of one of the wildcats, reports stated.

Some of the paint used had splattered on the base of the statue but was easily removed with water and a soft cloth, reports stated.

Some remnants of paint were left in the grooves of the statue, and the employee said it could be removed easily and no permanent damage was done, reports stated.

Police also found yellow ASU T-shirts on the statue near the Alumni Plaza, but no paint was used on that statue, reports stated.

The T-shirts were collected and disposed of, and no other related vandalism was found on campus, reports stated.

An unknown person defecated in a urinal in a men's restroom in Park Student Union, 615 N. Park Ave., sometime between noon and 12:30 p.m. on Nov. 22, reports stated.

An employee said this was the fourth time this has happened since Oct. 1, and each time he witnessed three boys who appeared to be between 13 and 15 years old, reports stated.

The employee said he believes middle school kids are responsible for the damage, reports stated.

There was no other suspect information, and the employee said he only wished to make a report for documentation purposes, reports stated.

A man was arrested after a student saw him steal his bike from the racks west of the Physics and Atmospheric Sciences building, 1118 E. Fourth St., at 5:54 p.m. Nov. 19, reports stated.

The student told police he had last seen the man who stole his bike with a black dog walking north between Yavapai Residence Hall and the Marley building, reports stated.

Three other officers and two police aides responded to the area. An aide saw the man near the flagpole at Old Main and kept an eye on him until police could respond, reports stated.

The man was detained near Saratoga Apartments, 901 N. First Ave., and the student positively identified the man as the person who stole his bike, reports stated.

Bolt cutters were found close to where the man was detained, but the student could not tell if they were the bolt cutters the man had used to steal his bike, reports stated.

The man has a history of drug and theft offenses on campus. The man told police he did not come to campus with the intention of stealing a bike but saw the $100 bike's wire lock was already damaged, and he was able to completely break it with his hands, reports stated.

The man said he had attempted to steal bikes from campus before but always seemed to get caught. He also said he has sold bikes he stole in the past for money for food or to support his cocaine and heroin addictions, reports stated.

The man was arrested and transported to his home. The bike, lock, bolt cutters and photos were placed into evidence, reports stated.
