For the first time in school history, both Arizona swim teams won the Texas Invitational in Austin, as the Wildcat men came back on the last day of competition to clinch victory over the host Longhorns.

Arizona's men's 400-yard freestyle relay teams took first and second place in the final event Saturday to overcome a 32-point deficit to Texas.

The "B" team of senior Lyndon Ferns, sophomores Albert Subirats and Jonas Persson, and freshman Brandon Selts posted a first-place time of 2:54.70.

The Arizona "A" team of senior Simon Burnett, junior Adam Ritter, sophomore Bart Steninger and freshman Matt Barnard took second place in 2:55.52.

Following a school-record finish in the 100y backstroke by senior Jenna Gresdal (52.63) on Friday, the No. 6 Wildcat women's team also had a prosperous finish at the invitational.

Arizona finished with six automatic-qualifying and 10 consideration times for March's NCAA Championships.

In the 200y breaststroke, senior Erin Sieper put up an automatic-qualifying time of 2:13.10. Sophomore Jacquelyn Craft and freshman Jessica Embick swam consideration times in the event.

Another automatic time came from junior Whitney Myers (first, 1:55.98) in the 200y butterfly, as senior Lisa Pursley finished eighth, posing a consideration time.

Like the No. 5 men's team, the Wildcat women also took the first two places in the 400y freestyle relay.

The "A" team of senior Marshi Smith, Myers, sophomore Lacey Nymeyer and freshman Anna Turner took first with an automatic-qualifying time of 3:18.77.

The "B" team of seniors Gresdal and Ryann Hackett, and freshman Lindsey Kelly and Taylor Baughman posted a second-place finish and a consideration time.

Seven Wildcat women put up qualifying times in the 100y freestyle on Saturday. Automatic-qualifying times came from Nymeyer (second, 48.60), Gresdal (third, 48.90) and Baughman (fourth, 50.07). Seniors Katie Willis and Hackett, Kelly and Turner posted consideration times in the race, as well.

The Wildcat men picked up three automatic-qualifying times and nine consideration times on Saturday.

The automatic-qualifying times all came in the 100y freestyle, with Burnett finishing second in 42.90, Ritter taking fourth in 43.43 and Ferns taking ninth in 42.98. Subirats and Persson picked up consideration times in the event.

Senior Tyler DeBerry finished fifth in the 1,650y freestyle with a consideration time of 15:13.23. Freshman Davis Pursley finished sixth in the event with a consideration time of 15:24.23.

Arizona next competes in a home meet Jan. 6 at Hillenbrand Aquatic Center, as the Wildcat women meet NAU and Oregon State, and both teams face Washington.
