Because of the lack of student attendance to fill out the new student section, Arizona Athletics and the Associated Students of the University of Arizona have decided to change the section to allow more students to attend the games.

ASUA spirit director Amber Harryman said any unclaimed seat will be sold to students lined up 10 minutes before the men's basketball game starts beginning with Thursday's 8:30 p.m. game against Stanford.

Any current student with a valid CatCard can purchase a ticket for $6.

Harryman said that the changes were made because students who bought tickets were not filling up the upper levels of the arena.

"It seems really terrible that we have this awesome student section, and we are not able to fill it up with students that won tickets in the lottery," Harryman said.

Harryman said the changes would make the McKale Center a better place to watch a basketball game.

"We just want to make improvements on the student section and make it more enjoyable and really energize the atmosphere of McKale," Harryman said.

Tickets will be handed out on the south side of the Zona Zoo entrance and the line for available tickets will begin four hours before the scheduled tip-off.

"It is frustrating for all students to see (empty seats) on TV when they want to be there," Harryman said.

According to the Arizona Athletics Web site, "tickets will be sold on a cash-only basis (no checks or credit cards) and will remain on sale until the 10-minute mark of the first half or until sold out.

"Current student season ticket holders that show up after the game begins may not be guaranteed entry."

Along with the new student section, ASUA is introducing a new ticket trader system on its Web site, www.zonazoo.arizona.edu.

"There is a section where you can go and post online a ticket if you aren't going to attend the game or want to trade tickets, and if another student shows interest, an e-mail will put the students together," Harryman said.
