After a slow start to the season, the Arizona Icecats (3-4-1) opened their first win streak Friday and Saturday with a pair of wins at St. Louis.

Arizona outshot St. Louis University 96-47 in the two-game set in the team's first road swing of the year and came out on top 4-2 Friday and 6-1 Saturday.

"We're the 'Enigmatic Icecats,'" UA head coach Leo Golembiewski said. "Any time you're on the road, you never know what to expect. I'm proud of the way these kids played."

Senior forward Mickey Meehan led the UA offensive barrage with four goals on the weekend, two in each game.

Freshman center Scott Marshall scored a goal in Saturday's second period and dished out an assist Friday. The series was Marshall's first action this season.

"It's still early, but you've got to be impressed with the leadership of some of these guys and their play," Golembiewski said.

Arizona jumped on St. Louis early Friday with a 2-0 first period lead.

The Billikens came back to tie the game at two going into the final frame.

"We had another of our second-period lapses," Golembiewski said.

In six previous second periods, the Icecats gave up 16 goals.

The Icecats bounced back in the third, sparked by freshman Craig Irwin, sophomore David Cwik and junior Mike Pelletier.

UA tacked on two goals in the third to win 4-2.

The momentum from Friday's win carried over into Saturday.

Arizona again pounced on the Billikens in the first to the tune of a 2-0 lead.

Marshall widened that gap with the second period's only goal.

In the third, senior defenseman Mike Smith complemented Meehan's two goals to close out the series with a 6-1 blowout win.
