After being swept by top-ranked Washington the day before, the No. 21 Arizona volleyball team exacted revenge on Washington State, as the Wildcats swept the Cougars (30-17, 30-19, 30-28) at Bohler Gym in Pullman, Wash., Friday night.
With the win, Arizona improved to 16-9 overall and 8-7 in the Pacific 10 Conference. The Wildcats hit .400 on the night while holding the Cougars to a .144 hitting percentage. Arizona also bettered Washington State in blocks (9 to 4) and kills (57 to 37). The Cougars, however, matched the Wildcats with 41 digs and had three service aces compared to Arizona's two.
Four Wildcats notched double-digit kills, compared to two in the Washington match. Junior outside hitter Kim Glass recorded 14 kills in addition to nine digs, while middle blockers Jolene Killough and Bre Ladd each had 12 kills. Killough also contributed eight blocks, including two solos, to the victory. Sophomore Meghan Cumpston dealt out 11 kills. Sophomore setter Stephanie Butkus had 42 assists and senior libero Kelli Mulvany led the team with 12 digs.
The Wildcats will compete in their last road game of the regular season Friday as they take on instate rival Arizona State in Tempe at 7 p.m.
