A student was referred to the Dean of Students' diversion program for underage drinking early Thursday morning after police found him lying on the sidewalk in front of Villa Del Puente Residence Hall, 575 N. Highland Ave., reports stated.

Police noticed the student had his shoes off and smelled like alcohol.

Police asked the student if he had been drinking. The student said, "Not so much."

Police noticed that the student had slurred speech, reports stated.

The student told police that he was 18-years-old.

The student was referred to the Dean of Students and escorted to his dorm, reports stated.


A trashcan was set on fire Thursday afternoon at the Student Union Memorial Center, 1209 E. University Blvd., reports stated.

The trashcan was next to the ATMs near the UofA Bookstore.

When police arrived, the fire had already been put out.

Police found a cigarette butt at the bottom of the trashcan. The cigarette butt had burned through the plastic trash bag and caused the fire, reports stated.

No damage was done to the trashcan.

Police have no suspects or witnesses, reports stated.


A man was booked into Pima County Jail for trespassing Wednesday night after police found him sleeping on the stairs at the Cherry Avenue Garage, 1641 E. Enke Dr., reports stated.

Police woke the man up by speaking loudly and asked him for identification.

The man gave police a medical ID card.

A records check showed the man had been warned for trespassing before and was not allowed on the UA campus, reports stated.


A student stole a $1.15 chocolate chip cookie and a 69-cent half-pint of Shamrock milk Nov. 9 from the Cactus Grill in the Student Union Memorial Center reports stated.

When police arrived, a UA employee told them she saw the student eat the cookie and drink the milk while waiting for his other food. The employee then saw the student throw the items away in a trashcan near the salad bar.

The employee told police the student then paid for other items but not for the cookie and the milk.

The employee said she then took the student's CatCard and called police.

When police asked the student if what the employee said was true, he said it was "Right on the money," reports stated.

The student admitted to stealing the cookie and the milk and said, "I have done it before, but normally I pay for it at the register. Today I didn't."

The student was cited and released, reports stated.


Two students were diverted to the Dean of Students Office for underage drinking early Thursday morning after police saw them arguing in front of the Apache-Santa Cruz Residence Hall, 1420 E. Fifth St., reports stated.

Police noticed one of the students was weaving back and forth while he was walking. Police smelled alcohol on the students' breath and asked them if they had been drinking.

The students said they had been drinking beer and both admitted to being 18 years old.

The student were diverted to the Dean of Students and sent home, reports stated.


A suspect approached a man's mother and was acting suspiciously Thursday night on East Helen Street and North Warren Road, reports stated.

The man told police that the suspect had gone up to his mother and had said, "What's going on, there is a lot of people around tonight." The man said he had been walking behind his mother and had caught up with her when he saw the suspect.

The man said the suspect had taken off in a hurry. The man said he suspected the suspect was up to no good.

The man said his mother would not be able to identify the suspect because she had been ignoring him.

Police tried calling the mother and left a message for her.

The man said he wanted to report the incident because the suspect was suspicious, reports stated.


Someone cut the fuel filler line and the gas supply line on a UA vehicle sometime between Sept. 1 and Wednesday while it was parked in a parking lot on North Park Avenue and East Adams Street.

When police arrived, they couldn't tell what had been used to cut the fuel filler line and the gas supply line.

Police have no suspects or witnesses, reports stated.
