Coming off a flawless outing Sunday, Arizona pitcher Alicia Hollowell was named Pacific 10 Conference Pitcher of the Week for the week of Feb. 7-14.
The junior from Suisun, Calif., pitched a five-inning perfect game against Tennessee-Chattanooga Sunday in the Kajikawa Classic in Phoenix.
The award is Hollowell's 11th for the No. 1 Wildcats (6-0). Hollowell (3-0), who struck out 11 of 15 batters Sunday, has fanned 46 in 24 innings this season with a 0.58 ERA.
"She means a lot to us," said Arizona assistant coach Larry Ray. "Obviously, with her on the mound, the opportunities to score are very minimal. I think our team feels very comfortable when she's on the mound, knowing that she's not going to be giving up many (runs). That puts a lot less pressure on them offensively."
"It's a very relaxing feeling," he said.
Hollowell has two of Arizona's four perfect games, including a 20-strikeout effort against Indiana on March 6.
"It's nice to be honored and that people are noticing, but I'm just trying to go out and do my job and help this team win. That's my main goal," Hollowell said.
"I've just been trying to work hard," she said. "I don't feel like I've done any better than I have in the past."
Hollowell takes the mound again this weekend at the Worth Wildcat Invitational, a three-day tournament at Hillenbrand Stadium. The Wildcats play Marshall Friday at 4 p.m. and Northern Iowa at 6 p.m.
