A 29-year-old man was arrested on a felony charge after university police stopped him for a routine traffic stop.

Police are seeking felony charges against John P. Samples for not appearing in court for burglary charges. Samples is of the 3800 block of East Third Street. He was transported and booked into the county jail.

A 17-year-old student was arrested Saturday afternoon when police found a plastic baggie of marijuana, cigarette papers and a smoking pipe in his residence hall room.

Police are seeking charges of possession of marijuana, possession of narcotic paraphernalia and minor in possession of alcohol against Todd A. Altschulter, a third floor resident in Manzanita-Mohave Hall, 1000 N. Park Ave.

Altschulter allowed police into his room to search for marijuana that an unidentified person reported. He told police he smoked marijuana but did not smoke in the residence hall.

Police found nothing in an initial search but searched Altschulter when they noticed him fidgeting with his right pants pockets which contained the drug items.

A man found walking in the middle of East Speedway Boulevard early Sunday was arrested after threatening police officers.

Police are seeking charges of disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace against Richard L. Spencer of the 4400 block of West Valencia Road.

Police approached Spencer, who was screaming at a car that nearly missed hitting him. Spencer ran from police then screamed obscenities and said he was exempt from arrest because he was a military policeman.

Police noted that Spencer smelled of alcohol when he was arrested and taken to the county jail.

A 23-year-old man was arrested Saturday at the intersection of North Park Avenue and East Speedway Boulevard for driving drunk.

Police are seeking charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding, no proof of insurance and no registration in possession against Gregory A. Rainer, of the 1100 block of East Eighth Street.

Police conducted a series of alcohol tests on Rainer, who appeared intoxicated.

A 25-year-old man was arrested Saturday for attempted bicycle theft and marijuana possession.

Police are seeking charges of attempted theft, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia against Thomas D. Coleman of the 400 block of East Ninth Street.

Coleman was stopped after someone was seen carrying bolt cutters near a bicycle rack at East Second Street and North Park Avenue.

Police found marijuana, a pipe, a syringe and a pair of red bolt cutters on Coleman. He was taken to City Court and released after arraignment.

Someone stole a black backpack and its contents Thursday from a shelf near the entrance of the ASUA bookstore.

The owner told police she left her backpack on the shelf at 11 a.m. and found it missing 15 minutes later.

The backpack contained three textbooks, a calculator, school supplies and a compact with the estimated value of $185.
