The Arizona women's volleyball team's hopes for an NCAA tournament bid were dealt a serious blow this weekend, after the Los Angeles schools swept the Wildcats in two Pacific 10 Conference matches.

No. 19 Arizona (14-11 overall, 6-11 in the Pac-10) pushed No. 14 Southern California to five games Friday but lost 9-15, 15-11, 15-13, 9-15, 15-12. Sunday, No. 14 UCLA beat the Wildcats in three sets 18-16, 15-12, 15-5.

Sunday, Arizona started well, pushing the Bruins in a tense 18-16 game which featured numerous lead and momentum changes.

The Wildcats were down 8-2 early but fought back to a 14-14 tie. Junior outside hitter Barb Bell paced the Wildcats with 20 kills for the match, but the Bruins were able to take the first game and the momentum.
