One UA student was killed and four others were injured early yesterday morning in a three-car accident near the southeast corner of campus, a Tucson Police detective said.

Heather Ann Dowd, 21, an anthropology senior, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which occurred at North Campbell Avenue and Sixth Street at 1:34 a.m, said TPD Det. Marty Fuentes.

Dowd and Thomas William Doyle, 26, a sociology senior, were traveling west across the intersection in a Honda Accord when they were struck by a southbound Chevrolet Camaro that ran a red light.

Doyle is in critical condition at University Medical Center, Fuentes said.

An eastbound Nissan Sentra carrying three students was also involved in the accident. The Sentra's driver, identified as systems and industrial engineering senior Andreas Santoso, sustained a minor head injury. Also in the vehicle were Muljadi Budiman, computer engineering senior, and Yohanes Santoso. Both sustained minor injuries.

The Camaro's driver, Thadeaus A. Jones, 21, was arrested and booked into Pima County Jail yesterday morning on charges of second-degree murder, felony criminal damage, and four counts of aggravated assault.

Police said alcohol was involved.
