U.S. shouldn't force moral ideals on China

Editor:

There are a couple of points worth mentioning in regards to Adam Djurdjulov's column ("Dr. America out to cure the world," Sept. 14). It's highly arrogant of our government to impose idealistic moral standards on the Chinese government and to do so only when the political climate is favorable. The fact that China's MFN status gets cleared year after year speaks for itself . Ooops! Sorry, our economic interests are more important than human rights!

There is no doubt that forced abortions are inhumane but again we don't live in a country of over 1 billion people. Most of us don't live in poverty and we don't face severe food and fuel shortages. Our efforts would be wiser spent if we stopped accusing others of violating moral codes that we as a society have problems adhering to here at home. We should instead focus on lending a hand in solving global problems such as population growth. Lets think long-term and address the root cause so we wouldn't have to deal with forced abortions in the future.
