The Wildcats were swept 6-0 by 10th-ranked Cal Friday and 7-2 by No. 7 Stanford Saturday.

The fifth-ranked Wildcats traveled to northern California with a six-match winning streak that included wins over No. 2 Texas and No. 8 Arizona State. Arizona had not been on the road in over a month, however, and despite only one previous road loss, the Wildcats were unable to handle the two Pacific 10 South Conference juggernauts.

The Wildcats were without their No. 6 player Betsy Miringoff who was suffering from an illness. Walk-on Erin Pavelko, who was 0-3 on the season, filled in for her in both matches.

The Bears came into the match on fire. They had just finished polishing off fourth-ranked UCLA last week when the Wildcats came to town.
