UA hopes to continue dominance at Stanford

The Arizona gymnastics team (9-2 overall, 1-0 in the Pacific 10 Conference) hopes to build on last weekend's record-breaking performance by beating Stanford (7-4, 2-3) tonight at Maples Pavilion in Palo Alto, Calif.

In the Tucson Newspapers Invitational last Friday, the UA notched a 193.925, the eighth-best score in school history.

A showing of that caliber tonight would most likely put the Wildcats in double digits in the wins column.

"Darci (Wambsgans), Nicole (Garrett) and Tenli (Poggemeyer) have demonstrated their ability throughout the season," Coach Jim Gault said. "But for us to be successful, we need that same support from our entire team."

Hoping to halt Arizona's success will be an experienced, but banged up Stanford team. The Cardinal's success will rely on their four seniors Ä Jene Elzie, Katie Clancy, Tina Snowden and Meegan Lannin.

Said Gault: "We know we can't just walk in there and expect to win. We have to be consistent and eliminate our falls."
