An employee at Steward Observatory, 933 N. Cherry Ave., called police Tuesday after a student told him of suspicious behavior outside a second-floor room.Police reports indicate the student told the employee he heard two males talking in the hall adjoining the room at 3:10 p.m. One told the other, "There it is, just sitting there by itself." The two quickly walked away when they saw the student.
According to the student, the two men were referring to a Sun computer workstation inside the room. The student described the males as "out of shape."
Police searched the area, but the two men were not found.
A female student reported being verbally harassed at 5:30 p.m. Monday after crossing the street at the intersection of East Sixth Street and North Fremont Avenue.
The victim was waiting to cross Sixth Street when she noticed a male standing "too close to her," police reports stated.
After they both had crossed the street, he mumbled something to her and she asked him to repeat himself.
He answered, "Gorgeous breasts."
Reports state she told him, "You are an asshole." She then got in her car and as she pulled away the victim said she saw the man running across the parking lot.
A resident assistant called university police to Navajo-Pinal-Sierra Residence Hall, 1557 E. Sixth St., after the RA saw a male that had previously been banished from the hall.
Police arrived and arrested Joaquim Del Rio, 21, of the 700 block of West Limberlost Drive, at 1:02 p.m. Tuesday for criminal trespassing after officers confronted him in a residence hall room.
Del Rio told police he was a friend of a hall resident.
He was escorted out of the building and released at the scene.
A Parking and Transportation Services employee notified police Tuesday after finding two instances of vandalism in the Main Gate Garage, 815 E. Second St.
Sometime prior to 11:25 a.m., someone spray-painted "KRYZIE" in the second-level of the northwest stairwell.
Facilities Management was notified to remove the writing.
In a separate incident, someone removed a fire extinguisher from the fifth floor of Main Gate Garage and discharged the contents sometime prior to 8:40 a.m.
The extinguisher was returned to Fire Safety and no suspicious-looking people were seen in the area.
The unit supervisor at Fiddlee Fig, 1303 E. University Blvd., called police after someone attempted to steal coffee and a bagel at 8:40 a.m. Tuesday morning.
The supervisor stopped the man, who told him he took the food because he was hungry.
The suspect left the premises before police arrived.
The supervisor retained the bagel and coffee.
A UA student called police after leaving a calculator on top of a second-floor computer in the Science Library, 744 N. Highland Ave.
The student left the scientific calculator in the computer lab early Monday morning at 12:30 p.m., and when she returned Tuesday, it was gone.
A desk clerk told police that a male told him Monday that he had found such a calculator.
Police reports indicate he told the clerk he would try to return it by placing an advertisement in the Arizona Daily Wildcat.
