University police assisted Tucson police Monday after a man and a woman stole several items from the Circle-K convenience store at 1105 E. Sixth St.

A UAPD officer observed a man and a woman run around the side of the store at 12:14 a.m. He followed them to the back of the building and saw the woman drop what she was carrying and flee south into the adjacent apartment complex. The officer drove back around the building to find the man hiding behind a large garbage can.

The officer then arrested Joshua K. Bates, 21, of the 400 block of East Prince Drive, after he admitted to stealing from the store. According to UAPD policy, TPD was brought in to handle the case.

Bates was turned over to TPD officers for processing.
