The Arizona women's basketball team picked up a critical 56-51 victory over Oregon last night at NcArthur Court in Eugene, Ore.

The Wildcats (17-5, 8-5 in the Pacific 10 Conference) were tied for third place and just a half-game ahead of the Ducks (15-9, 7-7) in the conference before this game. It was thought that UA would need a split this weekend - they play at Oregon State in Corvallis, Ore. Saturday - to keep their hopes alive for their first-ever NCAA Tournament bid.

While UA's leading scorer and rebounder, forward Adia Barnes, had 14 points and a team-high eight rebounds, Arizona received a big contribution off the bench from Marte Alexander, who had 16 points and four rebounds.

Alexander shared high scoring honors with Oregon's Arianna Boyer, who also added nine rebounds.

UA guard Brenda Pantoja, the nation's assist leader, dished out a game-high six to go along with her 12 points.
