University police assisted the Pima County Sheriff's Department Thursday after an all-points-bulletin was issued for a brown Pontiac sedan containing a male homicide suspect wanted by the sheriff.

At 10:26 p.m., university police stopped a sedan matching the description at the intersection of East Sixth Street and North Martin Avenue.

University police officers detained the vehicle and took its occupants to separate squad cars for questioning.

Police reports indicate the homicide suspect was one of five occupants. Officers also noticed blood spots on his pants.

The car's occupants told police they were on the way to University Medical Center, 1501 N. Campbell Ave., to check on the condition of the homicide victim.

Cursory police searches of the vehicle yielded no weapons.

A 1966 Volkswagen bug that appeared to be traveling with the brown sedan was also detained by police.

University police officers held the cars and their occupants until Pima County Sheriff deputies and detectives arrived, then turned the investigation over to them.


A Tucson man was arrested at 1:16 a.m. Thursday after police stopped his 1978 sedan for routine traffic violations.

Jose Gamarena, 19, of the 5400 block of South Movis Circle was detained at East Eighth Street and North Park Avenue for possession of a fictitious Arizona license and for driving without insurance.

The license was confiscated and placed into police property.

Gamarena was cited and released.

Police reports indicate the car and Gamarena may have gang connections.


A UA student was arrested for possession and use of false identification to buy liquor at 11:56 p.m. Wednesday after police stopped his 1985 BMW sedan for operating without tail lights.

Officers searched the car driven by Carson M. Reid, 20, of the 1400 block of East Second Street, after they smelled what reports termed a "vegetable odor." The search yielded a fake ID under the driver's side floor mat.

Reid later admitted to using the card to obtain alcohol even though none was found in the vehicle.

Reid was cited and released at the scene. The false ID was placed into evidence.


Two people reported thefts of personal belongings late last week.

A female student called police after someone took her leather planner from the Electrical and Computer Engineering building,1050 N. Palm Ave., at approximately 10:30 p.m. Thursday.

Police reports indicate she left the planner, which contained credit cards, in a computer lab while she went to the restroom. When she returned, it was gone.

The student had no suspects in the theft.

In a separate incident, a female employee notified police that someone stole her wallet from her office in UMC.

Between 9:20 a.m. and 12:05 p.m. Wednesday, someone entered her office and removed the wallet from the cabinet where it was stored. UMC security said it was later found in the men's restroom across the hall from the office.

The wallet contained a checkbook, between $25 and $30, and other items. The stolen items were valued at $65.


A UA employee called police Thursday after finding a small wooden pipe containing burnt marijuana residue on the ground by the diesel gas pump at the UA Garage, 550 N. Mountain Ave.

At 12:55 p.m., the employee saw the item by the pump, which is used only by UA Grounds and Labor personnel. There are no suspects in this case.


A UA student called police Wednesday to report that his Schwinn Sierra mountain bicycle was stolen from racks outside the Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering building, 1302 E. North Campus Drive.

Between 7 p.m. Tuesday and noon Wednesday, someone took the bike, which was secured with a cable lock. The stolen items are valued at $135.
