Students need forum for sex issues

Editor:

In response to Andrew Higgins' letter to the editor ("ASUA senator blasts 'Dragfest' spending," Feb. 27), I have to say that I disagree with every one of his points. On one of the most sexually active and diverse campuses in America, it is almost necessary for the student body to have a medium where they can read about sexual issues. Many other newspapers in the Tucson area will not touch the subject, and even if they did, they are not as easily accessible as the Wildcat. So I must give credit to the staff of the Wildcat for being brave enough to tackle such controversial issues as sex and venereal diseases. Whether it is gay, straight, or whatever, sex is a fact of life which cannot be ignored. In the past it has been ignored, and the direct result of that is the AIDS epidemic gripping our nation today. Please keep up the good work, and don't let the stone age opinions of Andrew Higgins influence you in any way.
