A UA custodian reported several incidents of theft to police Thursday after personal items and pieces of university property were damaged or taken from campus custodial rooms.

Police reports indicate someone shredded personal photographs and shattered custodians' ceramic mugs stored in the Physics and Atmospheric Sciences building, 1118 E. Fourth St., between Feb. 26 and Wednesday, Feb. 28.

Seven cases of paper towels and five cases of toilet paper were also taken from the Modern Languages building, 1423 E. University Blvd.

Unknown persons also stole two sink hoses, each four feet long, and four sanitary bottles from the Education building, 1430 E. Second St.

The custodians believe Facilities Maintenance and Service personnel or outside contractors may be involved with the thefts and vandalism, as keys are required to access all of the affected areas.

University police are investigating.

Two female residents of Delta Delta Delta sorority, 1541 E. Second St., called police Thursday evening to report that protesters outside of Kappa Sigma fraternity, 1423 E. First St., were making too much noise.

Police responded to the call at 7:54 p.m., and the protesters told officers they were planning to end the protest in 10 minutes.

A Tucson man was arrested on DUI charges at 3:27 a.m. Thursday after he was pulled over for running a stop sign at East Sixth Street and North Park Avenue.

When John F. McNamara, 31, of the 3100 block of East Granito Vista was stopped, officers smelled a strong odor of alcohol on his breath.

McNamara subsequently failed field sobriety tests and, later, Intoxilyzer exams determined his blood alcohol content was .158, police reports stated.

He was cited and released to a friend.

A Tucson man reported suspicious behavior in the parking lot at 1400 E. Seventh St. Thursday, shortly before officers found a stereo system stolen from the same lot.

At 7:19 p.m., the witness drove to police headquarters after he saw three males sitting in a blue Oldsmobile Cutlass sedan and another male crouched, moving from car to car in the lot.

Officers arrived to find the passenger-side window of a 1985 Honda Civic smashed and multiple stereo components removed.

Police reports indicate the owner of the car later arrived, but was apparently so angry with the situation that he drove away without itemizing the stolen equipment.

A UA student called police Thursday to report her bicycle stolen from the racks east of Navajo-Pinal-Sierra Residence Hall, 1557 E. Sixth St.

Between 2 p.m. Wednesday and 2 p.m. Thursday, someone stole the Raleigh 18-speed mountain bike, which was secured with a U-lock.

The stolen items are valued at $213.
