The Associated PressLOS ANGELES € ''Up Close and Personal,'' starring Robert Redford and Michelle Pfeiffer, was the weekend's No. 1 box office attraction in its debut, industry and studio sources said Sunday.
The film ''earned an estimated $11.5 million, followed by ''Down Periscope,'' starring Kelsey Grammer, with $7.5 million in its debut.
Figures are based on estimates by studio and industry sources. Final box office figures will be released Monday.
The weekend's top films and estimated gross:
1. ''Up Close and Personal,'' $11.5 million.
2. ''Down Periscope,'' $7.5 million.
3. ''Rumble in the Bronx,'' $6.4 million.
4. ''Broken Arrow,'' $5.8 million.
5. ''Happy Gilmore,'' $4.7 million.
6. ''Muppet Treasure Island,'' $4.6 million.
7. ''Mr. Holland's Opus,'' $4.2 million.
8. ''City Hall,'' $2.5 million.
9. ''Dead Man Walking,'' $2.1 million.
10. ''Before and After,'' $2 million.
