UA helps area celebrate annual Museum Week

The Tucson Association of Museums is celebrating everything from prehistoric artifacts to modern art as part of its annual Museum Week, which started yesterday.

The association is promoting the numerous cultural resources that exist in Tucson, said Jennifer Sturbois, an Arizona State Museum educator.

Today through Saturday, a photo display of each museum's offerings will be set up in Center Court at El Con Mall, and Saturday, each museum will have hands-on activities from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Participants will be transported into past centuries when they use items the Arizona State Museum brings to Saturday's event. Mano and metate, stone tools used for grinding corn and pump drills, used to make shell jewelry, will show
