En fuego € that's the only way to describe Arizona catcher Lety Pineda.

The sophomore had 13 straight hits, including four home runs, to help the UA softball team to five victories at the Wildcat Classic this weekend at Hillenbrand Memorial Stadium.

In fact, Pineda could very well have gone 15-for-15 if not for two good defensive plays by Northwestern (La.) State shortstop Becca Allen.

"(The softball) looks like a beach ball," Pineda said. "That's what happens when you are hitting well."

In addition to her thirteen hits, Pineda had 17 RBI and six runs scored.

Pineda and senior second baseman Jenny Dalton combined to lift Arizona over the Demons 7-4 in yesterday's championship game.

Dalton was 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI. Pineda went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

The victory was Arizona's 10th straight and improved its record to 14-2. Northwestern State fell to 2-11.

Dalton's home run, her sixth of the year, came in the top of the third inning with the score tied at 2. The Demons, whose only victory of the weekend was their 2-0 victory over Tennessee to advance to the game with UA, played with emotion that carried over into the afternoon game. The Demons took a 4-3 in the bottom of the third on good hitting and a costly Arizona throwing error.

But in the top of the fourth inning, the Wildcats showed why they are ranked second in the nation.

Arizona got four straight hits before Jenny Dalton walked with the bases loaded to give the Wildcats their fourth run of the inning and a 7-4 lead.

"I was pleased for the most part when we scored four runs when we needed to," Arizona head coach Mike Candrea said. "But right now we are not as consistent as we need to be come championship time."

Consistent? No. But the Wildcats have continued to win ballgames.

On Friday, Arizona defeated Tennessee 12-3 and downed the Demons 16-4. Saturday's game with the Volunteers (5-6) was a much closer 6-3 UA victory, but Arizona pounded Northwestern State for 15 runs on 13 hits in a 15-1 victory.

Carrie Dolan pitched three games and Lisa Pitt, seeing her first action this year, pitched the other two.

During yesterday's game, Dolan was visibly fatigued.

"Being tired doesn't help," Dolan said. "But this ump was calling low pitches (for strikes) which helped me greatly."
