In an effort to collect money for the Primavera Foundation, ASUA will be sponsoring a used compact disc drive and raffle during a live radio broadcast tomorrow on the UA Mall.

Associated Students will sponsor this event along with 92.1 KFMA-FM, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Primavera Foundation is an organization devoted to homeless people. The foundation provides the homeless with shelter, job advice, resume service, and clothes they can wear to a job interview.

Jonathan Bierner, undergraduate senator, got involved with this fund-raiser with the help of Bonnie Demorotski, Community Outreach director, after she spoke at the University of Arizona last year.

"'Homelessness doesn't discriminate' was what Bonnie told us. It makes you realize it could happen to you," Bierner said.

The raffle tomorrow is part of a three-week fund-raiser in Tucson that will collect used compact discs and sell them to Zip's Records and Tapes to raise money for the foundation.

There will be a box on the Mall tomorrow, similar to others you can find at businesses around the city, where you can drop your compact disc, Bierner said.

He said if students turn in compact discs tomorrow they will get free raffle tickets.

The raffle prizes include an autographed White Zombie tour jacket, a free tuxedo rental from Tux and Tails, T-shirts, compact discs, and UA basketball tickets to tomorrow night's game against Stanford.

Pete McCoy, promotions director at KFMA, said the radio station is excited about the fund-raiser.

"The Primavera Foundation is working towards a solution instead of continuing the problem."

Undergraduate Senate funded $256 to the disc drive. Bierner said this money paid for the stickers on each box that tell about the fund-raiser.

Uniform collection boxes were placed at more than 150 collection sites around Tucson March 1 and will remain through March 17.

Bierner said that he has had enthusiastic support from schools and local businesses. He said high school key clubs and student councils will conduct drives at their schools, and some other radio stations, like 96.1 KLPX-FM, will publicize on the air.

Some other sponsors include: Mail Boxes, Etc., Buffalo Exchange and Eegee's.
