Arizona catcher Lety Pineda was named the Pacific 10 Conference player of the week after a weekend that saw her go 13-for-15 with 17 RBI at the Wildcat Classic.

Pineda's numbers powered the No. 2 Wildcats to five victories and the championship of the tournament held at Hillenbrand Stadium.

The task now is to get that hot streak to carry over to this weekend, when the Wildcats open play in the Hillenbrand Invitational.

The Wildcats will face North Carolina today at 1 p.m. at Lincoln Park. All of the tournament games will be played at Lincoln, with Sunday's championship game set to be played at Hillenbrand Memorial Stadium at 2 p.m.

Pineda, along with last week's award winner, center fielder Alison Johnsen, will lead the Wildcats against their toughest competition to date with Missouri, Oklahoma, San Diego State, Southwest Texas, Fresno State, Michigan and DePaul all entered in the tournament.

"It's a very, very solid field, and there should be some good games," Arizona head coach Mike Candrea said. "We need to play well."

The toughest of the bunch is Fresno State. Candrea said that depending on which poll you read, the Bulldogs are third or fourth in the nation. Fresno will be back in Tucson for a double header on April 16.

Arizona will take on the Tar Heels before facing Oklahoma at 3 p.m. On Friday, UA will face the Tar Heels again at 1 p.m. and Michigan at 3 p.m. The tournament is divided into two pools, with the two top teams meeting at Hillenbrand on Sunday.
