Paying fee not 'requiring' exercise

Editor:

I found Jay Yoon's (March 5) recent letter to the editor as surprising as it was ridiculous. The $5 million award granted to the Spiegler family was not just another frivolous lawsuit, but an excellent example of poor morale judgment, and the lack of fundamental, critical thinking skills amongst our society. Yoon's attempt at suggesting that Spiegler was "required" to participate in exercise at the Rec Center because she paid the $25 membership fee, is like saying that if you pay for car insurance you should wreck your car. The comparison of an individual scrambled in a crosswalk to Spiegler's congenitive heart failure from peddling like a freak on a stationary bike was so wacked, that I have a suspicion Yoon's letter might have been an exercise in devil's advocacy. If Spiegler, Yoon and the others are looking for lawsuits, they should try their parents. I suggest a congenitive morale and personal responsibility deficiency to start, then throw in "born clueless".... should be good for a cool million. It's too bad the Rec Center helped Spiegler at all, maybe if they wouldn't have been so responsive, she wouldn't be alive to sue them.
