University police arrested four people on alcohol-related charges Wednesday.

In one incident, William C. Gwin, 20, of the 5600 block of North San Joaquin Road, and two minors under 18 were arrested at 8:09 p.m. in the alley south of Bargain Basement Bikes, 1112 E. Sixth St.

Employees of the Circle K at 1150 E. Sixth St. reported the theft of liquor and cigarettes. The owner of the bicycle store then reported three people fitting the descriptions of the thieves drinking in the adjacent alley, police reports stated.

Officers arrived at the scene and found the subjects visibly intoxicated along with an open vodka bottle and four packs of cigarettes. All three were cited for minor in consumption of alcohol.

Gwin was also cited for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Police also served an outstanding warrant on Gwin for unrelated alcohol charges. He was transported and booked into Pima County Jail.

In a separate incident, university police arrested Gavin W. McNiece, 18, of the 2400 block of East Hawthorne, for minor operating a vehicle with alcohol in the body after he ran a stop sign at East Sixth Street and North Park Avenue.

McNiece failed field sobriety tests at the scene, but Intoxilyzer tests showed his blood alcohol content was only .017, not enough to qualify for DUI.

McNiece was cited and released.

Two cases of petty larceny were reported to police Tuesday.

Between 8 and 9 a.m., someone stole a $40 telephone from a professor's desk in McClelland Hall, 1130 E. Helen St.

A secretary in the office said she remembered a male carrying a coat who left the area during that time frame.

In a separate incident, an employee of CDT Inc. called police Tuesday to report the theft of two 101-key IBM keyboards and three Microsoft two-button mouses from the College of Law, 1201 E. Speedway Blvd.

CDT Inc. services copiers and electronics at the law college.

The thefts reportedly occurred between 6 p.m. and 11:45 p.m. Feb. 21. The stolen items are valued at $253.
