TEMPE - Kansas didn't just break Cinderella's glass slipper, the Jayhawks shattered it.

With its 76-51 win yesterday, No. 2-seed Kansas ended the NCAA Tournament hopes of 10th-seeded Santa Clara (20-9), which downed seventh-seeded Maryland on Friday.

The Jayhawks (28-4), ranked No. 5 in the country, will now meet third-seeded Arizona on Friday night in the West Regional semifinals in Denver.

"We are going to enjoy the dickens out of this game before we worry about Arizona," Kansas head coach Roy Williams said.

The Jayhawks wasted no time, jumping out to a 12-0 lead that was extended to 46-22 at halftime.

Santa Clara's stellar point guard, Steve Nash, who had 28 points and 12 assists against the Terrapins, was just 1-for-11 from the field and finished with seven points. He did not score until the 14:23 mark of the second half.

"The first half was as good as we've played all season," Williams said. "We stopped Steve primarily with (Jayhawk point guard) Jacque (Vaughn)."

"We knew overall we had more talent," said Jayhawk forward Scott Pollard, who had nine points and six rebounds. "We just had to rise to the challenge."

Vaughn, a second-team All-American, had a quiet game offensively with two points and six assists.

The Broncos shot just 25 percent from the field and committed 19 turnovers, while Kansas shot 42.2 percent (54.3 in the first half) and outrebounded SCU 50-44.

Raef LaFrentz led Kansas with 19 points and Jerrod Haase had 12.
