Oregon, Cougars no match for Arizona

The No. 4 women's tennis team had the luck of the Irish yesterday, cruising to a 9-0 St. Patrick's Day victory over No. 47 Washington State. In singles action, WSU's Marcia Senn gave Arizona's Vicky Maes a run for her money, but Maes held on strong to cli nch the victory 7-6, 6-4. Stephanie Sammaritano cruised past the Cougars' Andrea Reisz, 6-3, 6-2 and Monique Allegre remained undefeated in singles play with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Helen Frankland.

On Saturday, Arizona did not drop a set in crushing Oregon 9-0. Maes, who is currently ranked as the No. 3 singles player in the nation, defeated Caryn Coyle 6-0, 6-3. Sammaritano easily defeated Elise Adams in a match that did not even last a full hour. UA's Karen Goldstein defeated Tucson native Allison Sosnow 6-3, 6-2.

UA will next face Arizona State on March 26.
