University police and the Tucson Fire Department's hazardous materials team evacuated the Campus Health Center, 1541 E. University Blvd., at 4:47 p.m. Friday after five people reported feeling a burning sensation in their lungs.The TFD team found a partially-discharged cartridge of pepper spray in a pharmacy trash can. The cartridge reportedly discharged after being placed in the receptacle.
The affected people were transported to University Medical Center for treatment and later released.
University police officers participating in the Southern Arizona DUI Task Force arrested a UA student over St. Patrick's Day weekend.
Susan E. Mooney, 22, of the 1900 block of East Hawthorne, was arrested on DUI charges at the intersection of East First Street and North Campbell Avenue.
Officers stopped Mooney at 1:35 a.m. Friday after she made an illegal turn. She later failed field sobriety tests and registered a blood alcohol concentration of .165.
Police reports indicate officers found a small bottle of Jack Daniels whiskey while searching her car.
She was cited for DUI and DUI above .10 and released. Officers later disposed of the whiskey.
Three men were arrested on alcohol-related charges at 9:12 p.m. Saturday after passing officers observed two men drinking in public outside the Circle K, 1150 E. Sixth St.
Police reports state Charles P. Crosby, 19, of the 1100 block of East Eighth Street, was leaning against a car drinking beer from a plastic cup. UA student David W. Brotherton, 20, of the same address, was also leaning against the car.
Crosby told police a friend of his was inside the Circle K buying beer for the two of them.
Peter G. Groom, 22, who lives with Crosby and Brotherton, then exited the Circle K with an 18-pack of Busch Light beer, but he denied buying the beer for the other men.
Crosby was cited for minor in consumption of alcohol and Brotherton was cited for minor in possession of alcohol. Groom was cited for furnishing liquor to a minor. All three were then released.
A UA employee called police Saturday to report painted graffiti on an outer wall of the Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering Lab, 1247 E. North Campus Drive.
Sometime before 1:59 p.m. Saturday, the wall was defaced with letters and numbers written in blue and white spray paint.
Between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Feb. 29, someone stole a red Cannondale men's bicycle and a U-lock from the racks east of the Modern Languages building, 1423 E. University Blvd.
The bicycle was reportedly affixed to the racks with the lock. The value of the stolen items is unknown.
