After a slow start at the Arizona Conquistadores Invitational, the Arizona women's golf team bounced back over spring break.The Wildcats placed second at the Longhorn Classic in Austin, Texas, and this past weekend, the Wildcats followed with a first-place finish at the 15th annual Louisiana State University Fairfield Invitational in Baton Rouge, La.
Arizona shot an 884 to win by nine shots over second place LSU (893). Auburn finished third with 906, Texas Tech followed with 919, and Florida State rounded out the top five with 928.
Leading the Wildcats was Maria Baena, who shot a 211 to win the second tournament of her young career. Baena improved every round, shooting a round low of 68 on the last day to claim the title.
The invitational proved to be a good one for the Wildcats, who had four of five players finish in the top 10.
Sophomore Heather Graff placed fourth (222) to claim the second top-10 finish on the year, while freshman Krissy Register tied for eight place (225). Register has illustrated her improvement through the last three tournaments, finishing 11th at the Arizona Invitational, and seventh at the Longhorn Classic.
Also adding to the Wildcats' winning ways was Jeanne Anne Krizman, who shot a 226 to round out the top 10.
Arizona will next compete in the Rainbow Wahine Golf Invitational in Kaneohe, Hawaii, March 26-28.
